Smarter Revenue from Smart Grid Introduction

Google charges zero cents to us when we do a Google search or check our Gmail or use Google maps, but still the company makes a lot of money. As we all know most of Google's revenue is generated through personalized advertisement programs like 'AdWords' and 'AdSense'. When a user searches for something, Google stores the search predicates and maps them with the IP address of the computer. The combination of recent search predicates and web pages visited from that IP address determine the type of ads to be displayed to the user. So if you have recently searched for terms like 'Holiday' and 'New York', the next few web pages may contain advertisements of hotels in New York. In a nutshell, Google uses the browsing history of the user to push advertisements.

Why can't smart grid programs take a leaf from Google and use the selective electricity usage details (of course with the due consent of the customer) for personalized advertisements. This will enable the utility company to gain good revenue and offload some of the electricity bill from the customers. In that case if the customer has an old air-conditioner consuming a huge amount of energy and not chilling properly, that data can be used to show some advertisements of energy efficient AC to the user. This article throws light on the type of data that can be extracted from the grid and how it can be mined to select advertisers.

Source of data

The advent of smart grid will enable the utility to have the detailed information on consumption patterns of the households. This information can be used to infer some of the lifestyle trends of the people living in that house. For example, lesser consumption in the evening can imply that people return home late. A higher consumption on weekends might mean that the persons are not moving out in the off time. Complex pattern matching algorithms can be used to mine even more granular levels of data.

The smart appliances can be sources of a lot of data as well. Their data can contain details of the equipment, frequency of usage, energy consumed by the equipment etc. There can be a specific set of data for a particular appliance. For example, a prominent manufacturer had come up with a smart fried which will let the user scan the grocery bill and that data will be used to identify how many days the food has been stored inside the refrigerator. So such data can reflect the grocery list of the consumer, food storage baits etc. Similarly smart televisions which are connected to internet can provide details of TV viewing frequency, channels watched, genre of music listened etc.

All these data, when combined, can really reflect on the life-style of the people living at the house. Proper data mining can confirm their activities, habits and preferences etc. These data can be as powerful and informative as the data used by Google to display personalized advertisements to the users. Utility companies can mimic what Google does and push the required advertisements to the users.

Mode of advertisement

Most of the smart appliances come with an LCD display panels and that can be a potential placeholder for advertisement. Even though initially it would look like a bit of clutter, but it will take a few days only to get acquainted to, just like we are accustomed with advertisements on Google search page. And advertisements are not all evil. They can contain interesting information, tips, discounts etc. and also ensure a lot of saving for the customers in their utility bills.

Another interesting advertisement cocktail can be mixing the electrical usage data with that of an online advertiser like Google. In the smart grid era, the household can be identified by some unique IP address. When anyone from the home uses Google search, Google tracks the search tags originating from that IP and selects advertisements accordingly. If Google is provided with the electricity consumption info and smart appliance usage info originating from the same IP address, then the combined data will be even more informative to select proper advertisements for the users. So if you have an old air conditioner that has lower energy star rating (means consumes a lot of energy) and you do a Google search for 'How to reduce my electricity bill', then Google not only can put an ad of latest energy efficient AC in the web pages you visit, but also can customize the ad to display how much money you would save monthly if you use the new AC instead of the one installed at your home.

Security concerns

A good number of customer surveys on smart grid security reveal that the customers are skeptical of such intelligent monitoring devices, which transmit power usage information to the utility as frequently as every few minutes. These data can seriously compromise the privacy of the customer and can make them vulnerable to burglars, annoying marketers, insurance companies, and civil litigation's. A comprehensive report on smart grid privacy released by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) compiles a list of scenarios that consumers fear if their energy data got into the wrong hands. To preserve the privacy of the customers, some researchers have suggested sending anonymous power usage information to the utilities. Many of these similar security issues are already addressed in different domains of internet applications. That experience coupled with suitable cyber security laws will enormously help us build a secure and smarter grid.

Conclusion

Sometimes the opportunity lies within; it is just a step away from being utilized optimally. Data originating from the smart grids can be sources of smart revenue for the utilities. But for this to happen, the utilities must come up with strategies to win the confidence of the customer and reassure them of the fact that their privacy won't be compromised. At the same time there must be adequate investment and research to come up with proper security architecture for the grid.

Spanish trade rises against Google and its policy of... - 20minutos.es

Millionaire benefit through the auctioning of trademarks that provide buyers with a good positioning in the search engine Google.'Store of the Esp?a' owner has decided to sue Google for these pr?cticas than seg?n ?l, they carry large p?rdidas to the peque?a company.Currently, European la?Comisi?n est? carried out an investigaci?n to elucidate if the USA compa??a est? falling on abuse of dominant posici?n.

Do ?De qu? live Google?, ?de d?nde benefit the Almighty Internet giant? In 2011, ?Google got some 40,000 d?lares million, of which almost 38,000 billion the consigui? to trav?s of advertising through its AdWords and AdSense services. SEG?n data from Infoadex, that same Google a?o factur? by advertising on Espa?a 368 million euros, 3% of the advertising market espa?ol, receiving 80% of sponsored links.

However, this great command of the online advertising market has its consequences: continuous complaints of competition for abuse of dominant posici?n and reporting of illegality in the pr?cticas carried out by Google to enrich themselves at the expense of outside companies. Criticized m?s system is the auction of trademarks as keywords to appear well positioned on the search engine. I.e. seg?n this way of proceeding, a company can pay Google to buy a t?rmino associated with the competition. When someone performs a b?squeda of that t?rmino, the search engine shows sponsored links of the company that purchased the t?rmino before the of the company that owns the trademark.

Are now moving the est?n crisis happening all espa?oles m?s of Google after issues of privacy (especially the related with Street View), press links (m?ltiples pa?ses associations have sued Google for playing content without permission) and free use of the networks of major telecommunications companies (operators such as Telef?nica believe that Google deber?a pay for its use)t?rminos focused on the advertising auction has become the en?sima battle of Google, a pol?mica comenz? makes a?os but it has now resurfaced strongly due to an investigaci?n of the European Comisi?n and reacci?n of espa?oles entrepreneurs who have decided to join the protests against Google.

Don Antonio Dur?n, owner of the shop of the Esp?a, who has decided to bring a lawsuit against Google for protest by the aforementioned pr?cticas has given the starting signal. When you enter the name of your business on Google, above its official web p?gina usually appear stores competition announcements such as Just Security or Spy.es. In Google Maps, your tambi?n establishment appears mixed with other brands.

SEG?n Dur?n, the way of proceeding of the American compa??a has made them lose 12 million euros in facturaci?n, bas?ndose in an expert report data. Among the many affected by this system, the employer CITES mutual Madrile?a of insurance, Hertz, oranges Lola, bags Purificaci?n Garc?a and service t?cnico Balay. Adem?s, Dur?n has created Asociaci?n Espa?ola of owners of patents and trademarks (AEPPYM) as a platform with which channel all allegations of this type and actively participate in the investigaci?n of Google carried out by the European Comisi?n, which have already sent a dossier detailing his case.

Dur?n ensures that they have tried to reach an agreement with Google for good, but the compa??a always responded them with prevarication. "We have sent many burofax, but it is not effective." " The effective ?nico is Sue", says the businessman. "Do ?Por qu? not this happens you to the Court Ingl?s that tambi?n includes on its brand names gen?ricos?" To this type of account you have them fear, because it is a pulse that can affect all over Europe, as? who prefer to take advantage of peque?itas like ours, companies that do not have capacity... ", says."

"Now we are passing the est?n crisis happening all espa?oles m?s of Google, as? I am willing not to give life but almost", account Dur?n. "I'm desperate with these dealers of brands." However, the employer is optimistic: "to Google I will kneel. " "I say by qu?: I have the raz?n".

Although the peque?as and medium-sized enterprises conf?an in the victory over Google, precedents are not very encouraging for them. The prominent m?s case is that of Louis Vuitton, to demand? to Google in 2003 for allowing other compa??as usar?en AdWords keywords related to your products. Although the company fashionable obttuvo a first victory in 2006, the case concluy? in favor of Google in July 2010, when the Court Supreme franc?s fall? in favor of Google in a number of cases (of Louis Vuitton, one of CNRRH ?Centre National de Recherche en Relations Humaines? and another of the Viaticum travel agency) related to trademarks that create jurisprudence.

Taking advantage of these statements, Google is apresur? to announce an actualizaci?n in the pol?tica of marks registered seg?n which "any company that is announced in Europe using Google podr? bid or select trademarks as keywords". "In this way, if a user, for example, enter in the search mark of a manufacturer of televisi?n, podr? find ?tiles announcements and relevant ads for buying and selling, as well as ads that brand manufacturers that are relevant to your b?squeda and distributors that brand", explained Google in a statement.

Even as?, Google not closed the door to claims and announced a p?gina from brand owners can report cases in which considered that an announcement of a third in Europe confuses users about the origin of the products and services that are announced when his trademark is entered in the search engine.

Despite this Google victory in the courts, there are positive se?ales that open some hope to retailers that are affected by the brands auction system. The month of April, is in Madrid dict? la?primera sentencia?que proh?be a competitor to use a trademark as a keyword in search engines to attract customers. Partially the lawsuit filed by the company Maherlo Ibérica, owner of the marca?Masaltos?contra estim? the statement shoes Fernando Garc?a?por infringe on intellectual property rights.

The statement, against which a?n there is appeal of apelaci?n, concluy? the company condenada?introdujo in the search engine of Google "brand Masaltos or Masaltos.com with the link" your web p?gina as if it were your sponsor, that is "a direct competitor who sells the same product".

Only a month despu?s, in may, la?Comisi?n Europea? (EC) exigi? a?Google?cambios in several of its pr?cticas if you want to avoid a multa?por abuse of dominant posici?n. Brussels, that abri? an investigaci?n in November 2010, considers the American compa??a can estar?violating Community standards?por, among other things, give priority to their listings and leverage content competitors for their own benefit.

Brussels examines complaints against Google three compa??as since the beginning of 2010: price comparaci?n web brit?nica Foundem (member of the organizaci?n ICOMP, partially funded by Microsoft, and the own FairSearch tambi?n), the search engine of informaci?n legal franc?s ejustice.fr, and Microsoft Ciao shopping website!

Use AdSense to monetize your YouTube channel. Use AdSense to monetize your YouTube channel.

There are many ways you can use YouTube to build your business. You can create videos that describe your products and services or you can use it as a marketing tool, creating content interesting enough to spread the word about your services. But you can also earn income from your videos directly, by placing advertising on them and collecting the revenue through AdSense.

Go to YouTube.com and sign-in to your account. Click your username in the upper-right corner of the screen and then click “Settings.” Under the Channel Settings menu click “Monetization.”

Click the “Enable my Account” button and then read the terms and conditions. If you agree, click the three check boxes under the terms and then click “I accept.” Select the ad formats you want and then click “OK.”

Return to your YouTube Settings page and then click “Monetization” again. Select the option to create a new AdSense account. You only need to link your YouTube account to an AdSense account to be paid, so if this option is not present, it is because your videos have not generated any revenue yet.

Fill-in the fields to sign-up for AdSense. You do not have to enter a username or a password, as these will be the same as for your YouTube account.

Read the AdSense terms and conditions and click “Sign Up” to create your AdSense account. Note that Google will review your application and you will hear from them in around three business days if your application was successful. Once Google has linked your accounts, a confirmation notice will appear the next time you log-in to YouTube.

Analysts Think A Facebook AdSense Is Inevitable - WebProNews

Analysts Think A Facebook AdSense Is Inevitable

Analysts expect Facebook to eventually launch an external ad network – some Facebook-powered version of AdSense.

A blog post from Hunch co-founder/CEO Chris Dixon made its way to Techmeme, sharing a section from a recent Goldman Sachs analyst report, saying, “We believe there are three obvious opportunities that the company could leverage its platform to capitalize on.” These include developing an external ad network, monetizing paid search, and entering China.

“Of the three options, search is clearly the most interesting,” says Dixon. “An external ad network is inevitable. Google proved this model with Adsense. With an already huge base of advertisers bidding on CPCs, it is impossible for most other ad networks to compete on publisher payouts. But Facebook’s traffic is so great now that an external ad network might increase their revenues by 2x or so. The same goes for entering China. They might get another half a billion users who monetize at lower ad rates than US users. Neither move would put them in Google’s revenue range. They need a better business model for that. The only (known) models that deliver RPMs high enough to compete with Google are search, payments, and e-commerce.”

We’ve been talking about both a Facebook search engine and a Facebook AdSense-like offering for years. CEO Mark Zuckerberg essentially confirmed last week that at least one of those is happening. At the TechCrunch disrupt event on Tuesday, he’s quoted as saying, “We’re basically doing 1 billion queries a day and we’re not even trying…Facebook is pretty uniquely positioned to answer the questions people have. At some point we’ll do it. We have a team working on it.”

Will the other happen? If you ask me, it’s kind of shocking that it hasn’t already. The scenario came back into Blogosphere discussion with Facebook’s IPO as investors and analysts contemplated how Facebook might increase its revenue substantially.

TechCrunch’s Josh Constine speculated about it in May, saying, “Facebook’s ad network [would] essentially turn ad real estate on any website into places to serve the campaigns that advertisers buy for display on Facebook.com. Anyone currently logged into Facebook who visits one of these sites would be shown ads targeted by their Facebook information, such as age, gender, location, work and education history, interests, app usage, and friends. Facebook and the site hosting an ad would then split the money made on clicks or impressions.”

I said at the time that it seems even more likely that this would happen than Facebook getting into search, yet here we are with Facebook apparently getting into search, so I’ll ask again, how can Facebook possibly not launch some kind of external ad network?

As Constine pointed out, Facebook revised its privacy policy to expand its ability to serve ads to its users while they’re outside of Facebook.com.

Grant Shapps founded company selling software that breaches ... - The Guardian

Grant ShappsGrant Shapps is tipped to become Conservative party chairman in David Cameron's imminet cabinet reshuffle. Photograph: Graeme Robertson

Grant Shapps, the Conservative housing minister tipped for promotion to the cabinet this week, founded a family business selling software that increases a website's advertising revenue by breaching Google's code of practice.

The $497 (£313) software package, TrafficPaymaster, creates web pages by "spinning and scraping" content from other sites to attract advertising from Google.

Millions of people who have blogs or websites are paid for hosting ads on Google's behalf using the AdSense service, which scans a web page and posts adverts related to the content. TrafficPaymaster creates an instant cashflow by appearing to plagiarise information.

Google has strict rules on "unoriginal content". Its AdSense policy says: "Sometimes we come across sites that are using software to generate automated content. These sites might look like normal news sites, but the information is completely plagiarised. Scraping content and passing it off as one's own is not only wrong, but it also happens to be a serious violation of our policies."

Shapps, a rising Tory star who many say could end up as party chairman in the reshuffle, set up web sales business HowToCorp in 2005.

Going under the name Michael Green and casting himself as an internet marketing guru, Shapps in 2007 claimed audiences could "make $20,000 in 20 days guaranteed or your money back" – if they spent $200 buying his bespoke software.

Shapps previously told journalists he used the name Michael Green for the business to keep it separate from his political work.

In 2008 Shapps transferred his share of the company to his wife, Belinda. The family business continues to sell online toolkits such as Michael Green's "How To Bounce Back From Recession".

In a post to an online forum this year, HowToCorp's Sebastian Fox – who also signs off as Michael Green – dismissed Google's attempts to police the internet. He said: "The real question is whether there are any signs about how a page has been created. If the answer is no, well then it doesn't much matter what Google officially thinks."

On Sunday sources at Google confirmed TrafficPaymaster was in "violation" of its policies and that its search engine's algorithms had been equipped to drop the ranking of any webpages created using HowToCorp's software. Officially, Google said it does not comment on individual cases.

"We have strict policies in place to ensure web users are presented with useful ads when browsing sites in our content network and to ensure our advertisers reach an engaged audience. If we are alerted to a site which breaks our AdSense policies, we will review it and can remove it from our network."

This is the second time in recent weeks Shapps has found himself at the centre of an internet row. In July the MP was forced to deny he used software to boost the number of followers to his Twitter account, after an online argument with Lord Prescott, the Labour former deputy prime minister.

Shapps is followed by 57,000 people on Twitter and says he achieved this by following and unfollowing thousands of people each week. In the week to 16 July, he had followed and unfollowed more than 3,000 people – an average of nearly 450 per day.

However, in an email to subscribers entitled "How To Build a BIG List", HowToCorp recommended people purchase TweetAdder, an automated tool for mass following and unfollowing people on Twitter. Until June, Shapp's wife Belinda, the sole director and owner of HowToCorp, had not used Twitter regularly and wrote on her own website that she was a "self-confessed social media novice".

When contacted by the Guardian, a spokesman for Shapps denied the minister set up the business, saying it was "always a partnership between Mr and Mrs Shapps" which began in 2000. He added: "Grant Shapps derives no income, dividends, or other income from this business, which is run by his wife Belinda with a registered office in Pinner in north-west London. He is quite simply not involved in this business.

"Mrs Shapps runs her own online business, uses freelancers, moderators and programmers to post on forums, generate products and maintain a help desk."

SMART - Skate for two, feat. Kilian Martin and Alfredo Urbon - (2012) - AdLand

If I could buy a car based on advertising alone, I would have driven a VW Cabrio back in -01, a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia in the 60s and a smart car now. Not just for their clever use of twitter for their branding, with the animated ASCII art and smart comebacks. They have also just made the wee tiny two-seater thingie a cool feature with this clip, instead of a potential negative.

Weapon7 brings to life the unique experience offered by the smart fortwo and celebrate the fact it only has two seats. Which makes it a lot of fun for two people.
So, we set out to film something that had never been attempted before. We asked world class skaters Kilian Martin and Alfredo Urbon if it was possible for two people to perform tricks on the same board simultaneously. And captured the astonishing result. From this, we've created a 90 second cinema commercial and YouTube video, plus a Behind the scenes online documentary.

The Onion and 7-Eleven Enter Into Historic Brazen Corporate ... - AdLand

Yes, it's election year so the election campaign idea is strutted out yet again. This however is done with a straight face all the way down to the press release. Points for that.

"The Onion, America's Finest News Source™, is pleased to announce a shameless new cross-branding promotional partnership with America's Most Politically Influential Convenience Store™, 7-Eleven, as part of the former's 2012 "War for the White House" coverage.

For over 250 years, The Onion has stood as a beacon of truth and sanity for the easily manipulated American public, protecting U.S. citizens from the lies and deceit that other so-called "news outlets" attempt to pass off as in-depth, unbiased analysis. Now, as the country yet again feebly attempts to select a leader, The Onion is combining forces with 7-Eleven, whose red-and-blue-cup political muscle has swayed every state and federal election in American history

The Onion's National Advertising Director, Matt McDonagh, says of the audacious corporate merger, "For centuries, 7-Eleven has been regarded as the most powerful and influential convenience store in domestic governmental policy. The Onion could think of no better partner with which to create an authoritarian juggernaut sure to shake the very foundation of American politics."

In accordance with this decree, The Onion has produced a custom video vignette which can be viewed here.

Meanwhile, 7-Eleven will feature exclusive "War for the White House" video coverage on its 7-Election 2012 site throughout the remainder of the election season."

blog birthday

Qué flojera ¿No?

Debo confesarlo.

Donde gestionamos y administramos comunidades on line.

Aleteia.org: a call to Catholic unity on line - ForumLibertas.com

Aleteia.org: a call to the cat?lica on line unitS?ntesis is a social network in six languages is referenced in the elaboraci?n, promoci?n and difusi?n viral of proprietary content and third-party about questions and answers about faith and the ense?anzas of the ChurchIn the past five years the Catholic Church has known a special institutional initiatives in digital boom: from a channel on YouTube, through a blog, profiles Ontwitter and Flickr, aggregating news and individual portals for dicasteries of the Roman Curia, to applications in Apple eiTunes.

It's a use of resources that large technology companies (such as Google, Yahoo oTwitter) already offer, with all its opportunities but also with all its limitations and risks.

So far, Xt3.com has been Catholic social network of greater scope and projection. Driven by the Archdiocese of Sydney, has been constantly growing since it was released on the occasion of the world youth day in 2008. In short, a 'Facebook' but Catholic.

Aleteia.org comes to enrich the offer not only in the Catholic confessional area but all the web 2.0: an independent platform that does not seek to promote itself, but to give visibility to the best projects and Catholic initiatives already existing on the internet. Around the common goal? To provide answers clear, documented, and close to the questions about the faith, the life, and other topics that touch the concerns most shallow man and the current women. A reference site to understand the faith, supported by a community that works from their specific individuality in a common project that benefits everyone.

As soon as Aleteia.org social network facilitates collaboration in several categories: partners, experts, members, contributors, translators. But it is not everything. The first great media offering that accompanies the project is 'Aleteia TV', a 'web 'free tv that allows the creation of a 'web tv' adequate to the demands of the person that you want to add this tool to your own site or blog.

A third aspect that came with Aleteia.org, perhaps of the greatest value, is a tool which enables economic income. AdEthic is called and serves as the instrument known AdSense, Google, to earn money by showing advertisements on the website or blog. What is the specific difference? AdEthic is an advertising agency that ensures consistent and ethical advertisements to the faith (with AdSense, for example, a Catholic portal can be announcing, in the best of cases, propaganda relating sects...).

On September 21, 2012 Aleteia.org will finally announce the effort of a titanic work that began to speak in October 2011 (see "new project of Jesus Hill Aleteia.org") for one of the most noble causes: the promotion and teaching of the faith precisely on the eve of the beginning of the 'year of the faith' and the Synod on 'New evangelization for the transmission of the Christian faith', in mid-October.

In summary: Aleteia.org is a social network in six languages is referenced in the development, promotion and viral spread of contents and third parties on questions and answers about faith and the teachings of the Church.

In his message for the world day of social communications of 2012 Pope Benedict XVI recalled that "much of the current dynamics of the communication is guided by questions for answers." Search engines and social networks are the starting point in the communication for many people seeking advice, tips, information and answers. Today, the network is transforming each time instead of the questions and responses; "even more often the contemporary man is bombarded by answers to questions that have never been raised, and needs that do not feel". Well we can say that Aleteia.org will be the place of the questions and the answers. So far it is a call to the Catholic unit on the web, to teamwork.

Video Recap of Weekly Search Buzz :: September 14, 2012 - Search Engine Roundtable

itunes-subscribe-video.pngIn this video recap, I try to start off with a bit of humor - not sure if it worked. I announced SMX Israel, it happens on January 6, 2013 and will sell out fast. I talked about how Google handled all the web sites that were down because of the GoDaddy outage. Microsoft renamed adCenter to Bing Ads. Google now offers AdSense email support for some and also has a big blue arrow on iOS AdSense ads. Google is testing car insurance quotes in Google Advisor in the UK. Do you link build by asking your clients to help? Facebook is looking at doing a search engine. FeedBurner is probably doomed. Google easter egg for the Bacon Number is hilarious. Google logos this week for Clara Schumann and the 46th anniversary of Star Trek! I am offline Monday and Tuesday for Rosh Hashanah, have a happy and healthy new year! That was this past week at the Search Engine Roundtable.

Want to make money on YouTube, here is the key - BusinessDay

Wednesday, 12 September 2012 08:58 Ben Uzor Jr

The internet provides a host of opportunities for ordinary individuals with Information Technology (IT) skills to generate income.

Only recently, some British parents published a 57-second video of their children on YouTube and ended up making over $150, 000 from that video alone. Firstly, you make money on YouTube by becoming a YouTube partner.

This would ultimately allow you to display ads on your videos, and then you earn a percentage of the revenues generated by clicks on those ads, much like with AdSense. As for how much money you can actually make, I heard numbers anywhere from $3 up to $10 per 1,000 video views. I know the question on your mind right now is how to become a partner.

Not to worry, just read on. I will deal with that in the last sub-heading of this article. Besides, Google Incorporated launched YouTube in Nigeria lat year to showcase the best and brightest local talent.

This launch of the platform however now offer some of the most informative and entertaining video content from around the world through a local interface, www.youtube.com.ng, to promote content that is most relevant to Nigerians. However, the process of becoming a YouTube partner is not as trivial as becoming an AdSense publisher. Below you’ll find the basic steps you need to go through:

Make Sure You Have an AdSense Account

While the process to be able to display ads on your YouTube videos is a separate one, your earnings and stats will go together with your AdSense account, so you need to have one. In theory you could apply to become a YouTube partner before having an AdSense account, and in case you get accepted you would then follow up with an AdSense application. I believe the other way around is much simpler, though.

Grow your audience on YouTube One of the most important criteria the YouTube guys will bring into play when evaluating your application is the audience you reach on the platform. They don’t really spell out the requirements, but I’ve heard many people say these are the estimated numbers you need to have before getting accepted:

At least 1,000 subscribers, at least 1,000 views on all your videos, at least 10,000 channel views. These are the very minimum though, if you want to make sure you’ll get accepted I would aim for 5,000 subscribers, 50,000 channel views and over 1, 000, 000 upload views total.

Get videos out there regularly

If you only have one or two videos uploaded your chances of getting accepted are low, even if those videos went viral. That’s because YouTube is looking for people who are planning to work with them over the long term. The more regularly and frequently you upload new videos, the better. For instance, someone who uploads a new video every day will have a better chance of getting accepted than someone who uploads one every couple of weeks. You also want to make sure you have at least 100 uploaded videos before applying to become a partner (though some people say 50 will be enough).

Develop a brand around your videos

This step is not crucial, but I think it helps a lot on getting approved. You need to remember that, once you meet the technical guidelines, it will be a person on the other site deciding on whether you are a good fit for becoming a YouTube Partner or not. In other words, the more professional you look the higher your chances.

Google Now Offering AdSense Email Support - Search Engine Roundtable

AdSense Email SupportA WebmasterWorld thread by netmeg notes that Google AdSense is now offering some publishers email support.

There were rumors of better support coming for AdSense publishers for years but nothing really came until today.

Those publishers earning more than $25 per week, on a consistent basis, are eligible for email support from Google AdSense. Of course, those earning a lot more have their own Google AdSense representatives they can email directly or even call.

To check to see if you are eligible, go to this page. If it says you are eligible, then great. It should say, "The Google Account you're signed in to is associated with an AdSense account that is eligible for email support." Otherwise, you are out of luck.

Here is a screen shot:

Google AdSense Email Support Eligibility

For more on the support eligibility, see this page.

I do not believe Google has announced this formally on their blog yet.

Blue Arrows On Google AdSense Ads On iOS - Search Engine Roundtable

Google AdSense logoIt appears Google is testing showing a new form of large blue arrows on AdSense ads when viewed on an iPad and iPhone. I suspect it shows for all iOS devices and maybe even all smartphones and tablet devices.

Although I did not test Android or other smartphone devices, I do suspect this is a new form of mobile ad unit designs.

I was able to replicate this on my iPad and here are a couple of screen shots of it in action.

I should note, the blue arrows are large and pretty bold on the page, especially on sites where the ton is not blue.

AdSense blue arrows

Now, this isn't exactly new. Google was testing a different form of these blue arrows back about 9 months ago.

Maybe now Google made it official?

Poll: Google AdSense Earnings Up Or Down? - Search Engine Roundtable

Google AdSense Ads PricingI'll be offline in the upcoming weeks due to religious holidays, so I am taking some polls and I will post the results while I am offline.

I wanted to know, historically, looking back at the years, are you earning more from Google AdSense this year versus the past years or less or the same?

Of course, many publishers were hit hard by Penguin and Panda but that should be factored in.

In short, are you earning more or less or the same this year as previous years?

Take my poll below and have your friends take the poll:

A WebmasterWorld thread has a very interesting post by martinibuster on why you might be earning less. I'll bullet point them here but go ahead and read the details at the forum:

1. AdSense doesn't siphon off ad dollars from the AdWords program

2. AdSense is good for Google because it's bad for affiliate programs

3. AdSense is good for Google because it is bad for competing search engines

4. Data, data, data... and more data (about Google collecting data)

Southwest Airlines “Challenge/Bags Fly Free” - (2012) :30 (USA) - AdLand

So flying i the US these days is like being on a nutty Japanese game-show. Yeah, that seems about right.

"Southwest Airlines’ flier-friendly policies always win in the competition-themed “Challenge” ad campaign directed by biscuit filmworks’ Mike Maguire via GSD&M. Using relatable humor, each of the seven spots play like clips from an over-the-top, hypothetical hit game show, “The Business Travel Challenge,” and feature different obstacle course competitions to metaphorically represent the various challenges of flying.

In “Bags Fly Free,” two travelers compete to successfully check their luggage. The Southwest passenger leisurely strolls down the elevated walkway unobstructed and reaches the finish in no time, while a less fortunate airline traveler gets knocked off track by giant swinging dollar signs, literally getting hit with an unexpected baggage fee. From sweeping brooms to GPS sweeping vehicles, from working independently to coordinating between urban management, public security and traffic police, the social management in Ningbo eastern new town makes breakthroughs by reforms and innovations. Recently, the first 37 sweeping vehicles have been put into use in the new town to dynamically maintain the cleanliness of the streets and roads. With 30 more sweeping vehicles to be put into operation, the rate of the area swept by vehicles will surpass 85%.

Besides improving the mechanized operating, the urban management department of Jiangdong District tries to realize the marketization of the cleanliness maintaining mechanism by introducing the third-party inspection organization to supervise the operating. The 6 worst Google services that have failed - Geekets

Google is one of the most important companies in the technological world, but this does not mean that they have not committed one or another error.

Google Fail

This is why that today we show the 6 worst Google services that failed.

Google Buzz
This service was one of the most important Google flaws, since he was one of the first attempts to join the world of social networks, but they did not. Then came Google Plus and they could claim their way.

Ads with audio
The Google company is recognized for most of their revenue through advertising such as AdWords, AdSense, and many more, and an idea of 2009 consisted of Audio Ads, but were aware that not getting the impact sought.

Dodgeball
This was one of the first projects made by the Foursquare founder Dennis Crowley. Although they did not obtain expected results, Google was inspired from this service to create Latitude, another competitor to Foursquare that neither worked.

Google Answers
The service of Yahoo! Answers has become very popular, but not so much for the accuracy of their responses, but for the fun of the comments left by users. Google also attempted to enter this area in 2002, to differentiate the service from Yahoo! did pay, but this did not work for nothing and closed the project, as explained in bitelia in 2006.

Google X
This project consisted of customize the Google home page, which "imitated the interface of OS X with a dock". Then you could read at the end of the site the phrase "roses are red". Violets are blue. OS X is great. "Homage to it". After thinking about it and consult their legal group, they decided to put this service to side because they may have problems in the future with Apple.

Google Wave
This was a service that failed because the users who received an invitation to try the beta version of Wave had no with whom share because they could not make it nor use it as it should, therefore, that in 2010 said goodbye to Google Wave.

Although these services were not as they expected, Google is an example of innovation and work, understanding the saying that says "which tries not to, nothing gained" very well.

The six greatest failures of Google - ABC.es

Since cambi? the concept of b?squeda on the internet, Google is ?xito sin?nimo. Mountain View compa??a stands out for its ability to understand users and offer all kinds of tools that meet their needs. However, the history of this company est? full tambi?n of tools that not enjoyed great popularity among Internet users.

In the blog ?Bitelia? offer us a recopilaci?n of the six biggest failures harvested by the company that desarroll? the greater the Web browser.

Quiz? is its important and known m?s of the a?os ?ltimos failure. Released in February of 2010, was one of the first attempts of the compa??a into the world of social networks, but your little privacy and its high degree of "intrusion", did that it was rejected by the majority of users of GMail, the Google electr?nico mail. The service was closed completely in October 2011, despu?s that Google + take a witness with a fairly discreet result.

Adem?s popular AdWords online advertising systems and AdSense, the Mountain View company had tambi?n a radiof?nicos, called Ads Audio ads service. With this initiative, naci? in 2006 and muri? in 2009, pretend?an make an incursi?n on the market of advertising radiof?nica that is sald? with a resounding failure and some large p?rdidas.

This project pioneered the ?mbito of the geolocalizaci?n and created by Foursquare founder Dennis Crowley, was bought by Google in 2005. This service permit?a users report your ubicaci?n to your m?vil trav?s, operating as a kind of primitive social network. Quiz? because it was released too early, the product not funcion? as expected and it was closed. Although part of his tecnolog?a was exploited in Latitude, the following draft of Google geolocalizaci?n, the giant has not been able to overcome the ?xito of Foursquare.

In 2002, Google lanz? a service of questions and answers that users pod?an consult your questions an expert, in exchange for an econ?mica remuneraci?n. As it was expected, enfrent?ndose to a collaborative, free and much m?s fun, Yahoo answers, the system does not cuaj? and dej? function in 2006.

It's the aplicaci?n m?s curious in this list, since it is had disposici?n users during a single d?a of 2005. It was a custom p?gina in the Google search engine that imitated the gr?fica of the OS X operating system interface. With it, the pretend?a compa??a do a tribute to Apple and your operating system. However, the lawyers of the compa??a considered podr?a to generate legal problems with the Cupertino giant and advised its withdrawal.

This tool of collaborative work in real time gener? great expectaci?n between users of Google, but the shortage of invitations to test the service provoc? that many of the people who acced?an to ?l lacked contacts with those who try it and share it. As a result, the cay? into oblivion and 2010 dej? upgrade tool.

There are who think that Google Wave was a tool ahead of his time and that motiv? that was not understood by the users and joining the list of failures of the compa??a. A list that shows there is no afraid to be wrong, since for every failed experiment, Google has several successful projects that keep you at the forefront of the innovaci?n on the internet.

Tory minister 'founded' firm that breaks Google AdSense rules - IDG News Service

Conservative housing minister Grant Shapps helped 'found' a business selling software that increases a website's advertising revenue by breaching Google's code of practice, reports The Guardian.

The HowToCorp business was set up by Shapps in 2005, and sells TrafficPaymaster, which creates web pages by "spinning and scraping" content from other sites to attract advertising from Google, says the paper. TrafficPaymaster creates "an instant cashflow by appearing to plagiarise information", it says.Websites are paid for hosting ads on Google's behalf using the AdSense service, which scans a web page and posts adverts related to the content.

The Guardian points out that Google has strict rules on "unoriginal content". Its AdSense policy says, "Sometimes we come across sites that are using software to generate automated content.

"These sites might look like normal news sites, but the information is completely plagiarised. Scraping content and passing it off as one's own is not only wrong, but it also happens to be a serious violation of our policies."

In 2008, Shapps transferred his share of HowToCorp to his wife, Belinda.

The Guardian said "sources at Google" confirmed that "TrafficPaymaster was in violation of its policies" and that its search engine's algorithms had "been equipped to drop the ranking of any webpages created using HowToCorp's software".

A spokesman for Shapps told the paper, "Grant Shapps derives no income, dividends, or other income from this business, which is run by his wife Belinda."

Last year Google issued a warning to web publishers that carry its ads after noticing that some of them were improperly altering ad formats, behaviour and targeting.

These types of tampering not only violated the terms and conditions of the AdSense programme, but also harm the efficacy of the ads, Google said. A common tampering practice involves placing AdSense ad code within an iframe, so that it can be displayed on another page, a practice Google forbids.

Also last year, Google said it had made progress on four copyright-protection initiatives. The company said it had finished building tools that now allow it to act in 24 hours or less on valid complaints from copyright owners that their content is appearing without permission on Google sites, enabling the search giant to take down the content.

Google AdSense Rejected Ad Requests - Search Engine Roundtable

Google AdSense logoA month and a half ago, I reported on a weird bug that was affecting some Google AdSense publishers where they were receiving notifications of rejected ad requests.

Since then, it was pretty quiet on the front, that was until yesterday where I guess the bug started to impact more publishers.

The WebmasterWorld thread with the original complaint saw a huge increase in complaints yesterday and I received several emails about the issue from publishers. I sent them to my previous rejected ad requests story.

The thing is, this time, Google is working on a fix. If you look at the AdSense known issues page, you will see this issue being directly addressed, where Google said they hope to have a fix out in the next few days.

We recently changed the way our system surfaces alerts related to rejected ad requests. This has resulted in some publishers seeing an alert in their AdSense accounts about needing to fix rejected ad requests, though no action is required on their part.

We're quickly working to fix this so that only publishers who need to take action will see the alert. We hope to have this resolved in the next couple of days, and we'll update the known issues page when the update is live. If you are concerned about this alert, please check your account after that, and if you still see the notice, follow the instructions in the Help Center to resolve the issue. Note that the vast majority (over 90%) of publishers now seeing this notification will not see it after the fix. If the instructions in the Help Center don't seem to apply to you, you are probably one of the publishers who should not be seeing this alert notification.

So hang tight, I hope this doesn't have a negative impact on your income and doesn't cause any of you additional stress.
