Google hace "limpieza de primavera", finaliza diversos servicios - IBTimes México

AppId is over the quota

AppId is over the quota

AppId is over the quota

AppId is over the quota

Smarter Revenue from Smart Grid Introduction

Google charges zero cents to us when we do a Google search or check our Gmail or use Google maps, but still the company makes a lot of money. As we all know most of Google's revenue is generated through personalized advertisement programs like 'AdWords' and 'AdSense'. When a user searches for something, Google stores the search predicates and maps them with the IP address of the computer. The combination of recent search predicates and web pages visited from that IP address determine the type of ads to be displayed to the user. So if you have recently searched for terms like 'Holiday' and 'New York', the next few web pages may contain advertisements of hotels in New York. In a nutshell, Google uses the browsing history of the user to push advertisements.

Why can't smart grid programs take a leaf from Google and use the selective electricity usage details (of course with the due consent of the customer) for personalized advertisements. This will enable the utility company to gain good revenue and offload some of the electricity bill from the customers. In that case if the customer has an old air-conditioner consuming a huge amount of energy and not chilling properly, that data can be used to show some advertisements of energy efficient AC to the user. This article throws light on the type of data that can be extracted from the grid and how it can be mined to select advertisers.

Source of data

The advent of smart grid will enable the utility to have the detailed information on consumption patterns of the households. This information can be used to infer some of the lifestyle trends of the people living in that house. For example, lesser consumption in the evening can imply that people return home late. A higher consumption on weekends might mean that the persons are not moving out in the off time. Complex pattern matching algorithms can be used to mine even more granular levels of data.

The smart appliances can be sources of a lot of data as well. Their data can contain details of the equipment, frequency of usage, energy consumed by the equipment etc. There can be a specific set of data for a particular appliance. For example, a prominent manufacturer had come up with a smart fried which will let the user scan the grocery bill and that data will be used to identify how many days the food has been stored inside the refrigerator. So such data can reflect the grocery list of the consumer, food storage baits etc. Similarly smart televisions which are connected to internet can provide details of TV viewing frequency, channels watched, genre of music listened etc.

All these data, when combined, can really reflect on the life-style of the people living at the house. Proper data mining can confirm their activities, habits and preferences etc. These data can be as powerful and informative as the data used by Google to display personalized advertisements to the users. Utility companies can mimic what Google does and push the required advertisements to the users.

Mode of advertisement

Most of the smart appliances come with an LCD display panels and that can be a potential placeholder for advertisement. Even though initially it would look like a bit of clutter, but it will take a few days only to get acquainted to, just like we are accustomed with advertisements on Google search page. And advertisements are not all evil. They can contain interesting information, tips, discounts etc. and also ensure a lot of saving for the customers in their utility bills.

Another interesting advertisement cocktail can be mixing the electrical usage data with that of an online advertiser like Google. In the smart grid era, the household can be identified by some unique IP address. When anyone from the home uses Google search, Google tracks the search tags originating from that IP and selects advertisements accordingly. If Google is provided with the electricity consumption info and smart appliance usage info originating from the same IP address, then the combined data will be even more informative to select proper advertisements for the users. So if you have an old air conditioner that has lower energy star rating (means consumes a lot of energy) and you do a Google search for 'How to reduce my electricity bill', then Google not only can put an ad of latest energy efficient AC in the web pages you visit, but also can customize the ad to display how much money you would save monthly if you use the new AC instead of the one installed at your home.

Security concerns

A good number of customer surveys on smart grid security reveal that the customers are skeptical of such intelligent monitoring devices, which transmit power usage information to the utility as frequently as every few minutes. These data can seriously compromise the privacy of the customer and can make them vulnerable to burglars, annoying marketers, insurance companies, and civil litigation's. A comprehensive report on smart grid privacy released by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) compiles a list of scenarios that consumers fear if their energy data got into the wrong hands. To preserve the privacy of the customers, some researchers have suggested sending anonymous power usage information to the utilities. Many of these similar security issues are already addressed in different domains of internet applications. That experience coupled with suitable cyber security laws will enormously help us build a secure and smarter grid.

Conclusion

Sometimes the opportunity lies within; it is just a step away from being utilized optimally. Data originating from the smart grids can be sources of smart revenue for the utilities. But for this to happen, the utilities must come up with strategies to win the confidence of the customer and reassure them of the fact that their privacy won't be compromised. At the same time there must be adequate investment and research to come up with proper security architecture for the grid.

Spanish trade rises against Google and its policy of... - 20minutos.es

Millionaire benefit through the auctioning of trademarks that provide buyers with a good positioning in the search engine Google.'Store of the Esp?a' owner has decided to sue Google for these pr?cticas than seg?n ?l, they carry large p?rdidas to the peque?a company.Currently, European la?Comisi?n est? carried out an investigaci?n to elucidate if the USA compa??a est? falling on abuse of dominant posici?n.

Do ?De qu? live Google?, ?de d?nde benefit the Almighty Internet giant? In 2011, ?Google got some 40,000 d?lares million, of which almost 38,000 billion the consigui? to trav?s of advertising through its AdWords and AdSense services. SEG?n data from Infoadex, that same Google a?o factur? by advertising on Espa?a 368 million euros, 3% of the advertising market espa?ol, receiving 80% of sponsored links.

However, this great command of the online advertising market has its consequences: continuous complaints of competition for abuse of dominant posici?n and reporting of illegality in the pr?cticas carried out by Google to enrich themselves at the expense of outside companies. Criticized m?s system is the auction of trademarks as keywords to appear well positioned on the search engine. I.e. seg?n this way of proceeding, a company can pay Google to buy a t?rmino associated with the competition. When someone performs a b?squeda of that t?rmino, the search engine shows sponsored links of the company that purchased the t?rmino before the of the company that owns the trademark.

Are now moving the est?n crisis happening all espa?oles m?s of Google after issues of privacy (especially the related with Street View), press links (m?ltiples pa?ses associations have sued Google for playing content without permission) and free use of the networks of major telecommunications companies (operators such as Telef?nica believe that Google deber?a pay for its use)t?rminos focused on the advertising auction has become the en?sima battle of Google, a pol?mica comenz? makes a?os but it has now resurfaced strongly due to an investigaci?n of the European Comisi?n and reacci?n of espa?oles entrepreneurs who have decided to join the protests against Google.

Don Antonio Dur?n, owner of the shop of the Esp?a, who has decided to bring a lawsuit against Google for protest by the aforementioned pr?cticas has given the starting signal. When you enter the name of your business on Google, above its official web p?gina usually appear stores competition announcements such as Just Security or Spy.es. In Google Maps, your tambi?n establishment appears mixed with other brands.

SEG?n Dur?n, the way of proceeding of the American compa??a has made them lose 12 million euros in facturaci?n, bas?ndose in an expert report data. Among the many affected by this system, the employer CITES mutual Madrile?a of insurance, Hertz, oranges Lola, bags Purificaci?n Garc?a and service t?cnico Balay. Adem?s, Dur?n has created Asociaci?n Espa?ola of owners of patents and trademarks (AEPPYM) as a platform with which channel all allegations of this type and actively participate in the investigaci?n of Google carried out by the European Comisi?n, which have already sent a dossier detailing his case.

Dur?n ensures that they have tried to reach an agreement with Google for good, but the compa??a always responded them with prevarication. "We have sent many burofax, but it is not effective." " The effective ?nico is Sue", says the businessman. "Do ?Por qu? not this happens you to the Court Ingl?s that tambi?n includes on its brand names gen?ricos?" To this type of account you have them fear, because it is a pulse that can affect all over Europe, as? who prefer to take advantage of peque?itas like ours, companies that do not have capacity... ", says."

"Now we are passing the est?n crisis happening all espa?oles m?s of Google, as? I am willing not to give life but almost", account Dur?n. "I'm desperate with these dealers of brands." However, the employer is optimistic: "to Google I will kneel. " "I say by qu?: I have the raz?n".

Although the peque?as and medium-sized enterprises conf?an in the victory over Google, precedents are not very encouraging for them. The prominent m?s case is that of Louis Vuitton, to demand? to Google in 2003 for allowing other compa??as usar?en AdWords keywords related to your products. There are many ways you can use YouTube to build your business. You can create videos that describe your products and services or you can use it as a marketing tool, creating content interesting enough to spread the word about your services. But you can also earn income from your videos directly, by placing advertising on them and collecting the revenue through AdSense.

Go to YouTube.com and sign-in to your account. Click your username in the upper-right corner of the screen and then click “Settings.” Under the Channel Settings menu click “Monetization.”

Click the “Enable my Account” button and then read the terms and conditions. If you agree, click the three check boxes under the terms and then click “I accept.” Select the ad formats you want and then click “OK.”

Return to your YouTube Settings page and then click “Monetization” again. Select the option to create a new AdSense account. You only need to link your YouTube account to an AdSense account to be paid, so if this option is not present, it is because your videos have not generated any revenue yet.

Fill-in the fields to sign-up for AdSense. You do not have to enter a username or a password, as these will be the same as for your YouTube account.

Read the AdSense terms and conditions and click “Sign Up” to create your AdSense account. Note that Google will review your application and you will hear from them in around three business days if your application was successful. Once Google has linked your accounts, a confirmation notice will appear the next time you log-in to YouTube.

Analysts Think A Facebook AdSense Is Inevitable - WebProNews

Analysts Think A Facebook AdSense Is Inevitable

Analysts expect Facebook to eventually launch an external ad network – some Facebook-powered version of AdSense.

A blog post from Hunch co-founder/CEO Chris Dixon made its way to Techmeme, sharing a section from a recent Goldman Sachs analyst report, saying, “We believe there are three obvious opportunities that the company could leverage its platform to capitalize on.” These include developing an external ad network, monetizing paid search, and entering China.

“Of the three options, search is clearly the most interesting,” says Dixon. “An external ad network is inevitable. Google proved this model with Adsense. With an already huge base of advertisers bidding on CPCs, it is impossible for most other ad networks to compete on publisher payouts. But Facebook’s traffic is so great now that an external ad network might increase their revenues by 2x or so. The same goes for entering China. They might get another half a billion users who monetize at lower ad rates than US users. Neither move would put them in Google’s revenue range. They need a better business model for that. The only (known) models that deliver RPMs high enough to compete with Google are search, payments, and e-commerce.”

We’ve been talking about both a Facebook search engine and a Facebook AdSense-like offering for years. CEO Mark Zuckerberg essentially confirmed last week that at least one of those is happening. At the TechCrunch disrupt event on Tuesday, he’s quoted as saying, “We’re basically doing 1 billion queries a day and we’re not even trying…Facebook is pretty uniquely positioned to answer the questions people have. At some point we’ll do it. We have a team working on it.”

Will the other happen? If you ask me, it’s kind of shocking that it hasn’t already. The scenario came back into Blogosphere discussion with Facebook’s IPO as investors and analysts contemplated how Facebook might increase its revenue substantially.

TechCrunch’s Josh Constine speculated about it in May, saying, “Facebook’s ad network [would] essentially turn ad real estate on any website into places to serve the campaigns that advertisers buy for display on Facebook.com. Anyone currently logged into Facebook who visits one of these sites would be shown ads targeted by their Facebook information, such as age, gender, location, work and education history, interests, app usage, and friends. Facebook and the site hosting an ad would then split the money made on clicks or impressions.”

I said at the time that it seems even more likely that this would happen than Facebook getting into search, yet here we are with Facebook apparently getting into search, so I’ll ask again, how can Facebook possibly not launch some kind of external ad network?

As Constine pointed out, Facebook revised its privacy policy to expand its ability to serve ads to its users while they’re outside of Facebook.com.

Grant Shapps founded company selling software that breaches ... - The Guardian

Grant Shapps, the Conservative housing minister tipped for promotion to the cabinet this week, founded a family business selling software that increases a website's advertising revenue by breaching Google's code of practice.

The $497 (£313) software package, TrafficPaymaster, creates web pages by "spinning and scraping" content from other sites to attract advertising from Google.

Millions of people who have blogs or websites are paid for hosting ads on Google's behalf using the AdSense service, which scans a web page and posts adverts related to the content. TrafficPaymaster creates an instant cashflow by appearing to plagiarise information.

Google has strict rules on "unoriginal content". Its AdSense policy says: "Sometimes we come across sites that are using software to generate automated content. These sites might look like normal news sites, but the information is completely plagiarised. Scraping content and passing it off as one's own is not only wrong, but it also happens to be a serious violation of our policies."

Shapps, a rising Tory star who many say could end up as party chairman in the reshuffle, set up web sales business HowToCorp in 2005.

Going under the name Michael Green and casting himself as an internet marketing guru, Shapps in 2007 claimed audiences could "make $20,000 in 20 days guaranteed or your money back" – if they spent $200 buying his bespoke software.

Shapps previously told journalists he used the name Michael Green for the business to keep it separate from his political work.

In 2008 Shapps transferred his share of the company to his wife, Belinda. The family business continues to sell online toolkits such as Michael Green's "How To Bounce Back From Recession".

In a post to an online forum this year, HowToCorp's Sebastian Fox – who also signs off as Michael Green – dismissed Google's attempts to police the internet. He said: "The real question is whether there are any signs about how a page has been created. If the answer is no, well then it doesn't much matter what Google officially thinks."

On Sunday sources at Google confirmed TrafficPaymaster was in "violation" of its policies and that its search engine's algorithms had been equipped to drop the ranking of any webpages created using HowToCorp's software. Officially, Google said it does not comment on individual cases.

"We have strict policies in place to ensure web users are presented with useful ads when browsing sites in our content network and to ensure our advertisers reach an engaged audience. If we are alerted to a site which breaks our AdSense policies, we will review it and can remove it from our network."

This is the second time in recent weeks Shapps has found himself at the centre of an internet row. In July the MP was forced to deny he used software to boost the number of followers to his Twitter account, after an online argument with Lord Prescott, the Labour former deputy prime minister.

Shapps is followed by 57,000 people on Twitter and says he achieved this by following and unfollowing thousands of people each week. In the week to 16 July, he had followed and unfollowed more than 3,000 people – an average of nearly 450 per day.

However, in an email to subscribers entitled "How To Build a BIG List", HowToCorp recommended people purchase TweetAdder, an automated tool for mass following and unfollowing people on Twitter. Until June, Shapp's wife Belinda, the sole director and owner of HowToCorp, had not used Twitter regularly and wrote on her own website that she was a "self-confessed social media novice".

When contacted by the Guardian, a spokesman for Shapps denied the minister set up the business, saying it was "always a partnership between Mr and Mrs Shapps" which began in 2000. He added: "Grant Shapps derives no income, dividends, or other income from this business, which is run by his wife Belinda with a registered office in Pinner in north-west London. He is quite simply not involved in this business.

"Mrs Shapps runs her own online business, uses freelancers, moderators and programmers to post on forums, generate products and maintain a help desk."

SMART - Skate for two, feat. Kilian Martin and Alfredo Urbon - (2012) - AdLand

If I could buy a car based on advertising alone, I would have driven a VW Cabrio back in -01, a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia in the 60s and a smart car now. Not just for their clever use of twitter for their branding, with the animated ASCII art and smart comebacks. They have also just made the wee tiny two-seater thingie a cool feature with this clip, instead of a potential negative.

Weapon7 brings to life the unique experience offered by the smart fortwo and celebrate the fact it only has two seats. Which makes it a lot of fun for two people.
So, we set out to film something that had never been attempted before. We asked world class skaters Kilian Martin and Alfredo Urbon if it was possible for two people to perform tricks on the same board simultaneously. And captured the astonishing result. From this, we've created a 90 second cinema commercial and YouTube video, plus a Behind the scenes online documentary.
